Plaster proscenium curtains surround the stage of the MGM Theater at Foxwoods. To create the billowing curtain look from the designer’s conceptual drawings, we used AutoCAD to produce slice sections of the custom shapes. These slices were later used to guide a computer-aided plasma cutter to create sections of sheet steel necessary to form the uniquely-shaped structure. Everything was tied together with furring, lath and plaster. The side “Peel Walls” of the theater, intended to convey the impression of immense wood shavings peeling inward, were hand-grained using a specialty plastering technique.
